New Defense Secretary Vows to Bring Change to U.S. Military

New U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has vowed to bring more change to the U.S. military. Hegseth, a veteran and former Fox News anchor, was welcomed outside the Pentagon by Gen. CQ Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as he arrived for his first day as defense secretary.

Hegseth told reporters that serving as defense secretary is a lifelong honor and that the Department of Defense will continue to accelerate its work. Hegseth said that the Department of Defense will implement the president’s official orders without exception and that those responsible will be held accountable.

Hegseth was confirmed as defense secretary late Friday by a 51-50 vote in the Senate, with Vice President JD Vance voting in favor. After being sworn in as defense secretary on Saturday, he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, in what the Pentagon said was an introductory meeting.
