President Biden pardons Trump-era officials

US President Joe Biden announced today that he will pardon some of those who could face retaliation from President-elect Donald Trump, just hours before his term ends.

The pardons include Dr. Anthony Fauci, former head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, retired General Mark Milley, and members of the House of Representatives committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, raid on the Capitol to reject the results of the 2020 election.

The decision comes after President-elect Trump warned of retaliation against political opponents and those investigating the raid. Biden said in a statement that he would not be relieved if those who did nothing wrong and did the right thing were punished. He also said that due to the unusual circumstances, he was granted early release before any action was taken.
